Winter is all around

Just thought I would share with you this photo I took in my garden this morning, it is always so nice to see these gorgeous pink flowers out at this time of the year.

June 2009 033

Also here are some of the ladies from this weekend retreat group, wow they all did so well - Dianne and Dianne both made their very first quilts, so they were both extremely happy. Sue and Ingrid had to leave early so they both missed the photo, but they were over achievers and went home with their shaggy quilts all finished. What a great weekend we all had and with the little bit of rain around it was perfect weather for being inside sewing.

June 2009 031

There are reports around that there is some snow on it's way in the next 48 hours, I am crossing my fingers as I would love a snow fall  - as I have something special to do if it snow's.

Anyway hope you all had a great weekend. Thanks for dropping by

Another Great Weekend

This weekend just past I had a great group of ladies from Denman visit me as they do each year - Kim and I think she has been coming to retreats here in Nundle for 12 years. I didn't actually get a photo of them before they left as it was dark outside and they wanted to get on the road but I do have proof that they were here as Sharon bought me 2 cases of June 2009 029 Denman is in the middle of the Hunter Valley which is a famous wine growing area of NSW - thanks heaps I will enjoy.

Along with the Denman ladies we also have Rosemary, Carolyn and Suvannah - they were having a girls weekend away - 3 generations - how lovely. And look what they achieved - Suvannah did so well and was an angel all weekend - she also had a great time playing with Daphney the dog.

June 2009 027 Suvannah made her quilt for her own puppy dog.

Today I had a fairly busy day with my Tuesday ladies then tonight I decided to do some cooking to put into the freezer, (Ihave a very busy couple of weeks planned so thought I better be prepared) - after a few slices, cakes and batches of biscuits I decided to make this yummy dessert, Caramel Apples - we don't often have desert but this went down very well after dinner tonight. I might just have to add this to my new book - which is still coming.Caramel Apples

Anyway hope you are all having a good week - leave me a message and tell me what one of your favourite recipes might be for dessert

Another year older

Well Saturday saw me turn another year older and wow what a great day I had. My very bestest friend - Tanya - and her daughter Jessica arrived to spend the weekend with me. They joined Geoffrey, Nicole Josh and myself out for lunch in Nundle, before spending the afternoon sewing in the shop - what a great way to spend an afternoon. Then we had more friends arrive for dinner and a few drinks - these are the lovely flowers I recieved from my dearest friend - aren't they just gorgeous.

June 2009 020

I also have a photo of all the fat 1/4's I recieved in the Fat 1/4 birthday swap - a big thank you to all my friends who sent them to me, I just love them all - they look so nice all in a neat pile - it seems ashame to have to cut into them but I do have a few ideas - just need a spare day or two to sew. June 2009 019

Then to continue the Birthday on, my Tuesday ladies had a great big cake for me today - then they presented me with a bag full of pieced traditional blocks that they had made for me - the blocks aren't for my birthday they are to celebrate my Business Award win a couple of weeks back - you know the good thing is that I don't actually have a sampler quilt of my own so I look forward to making this quilt up - once again I have some ideas. Thanks heaps - you are all truly a wonderful bunch of ladies - I love having you all here every week.

June 2009 021

Oh well I wish Birthdays could last alot longer then one day - but gosh they seem to come around very quickly - hugs to all those that sent me Birthday wishes

Tuesday was one of those days that will stay with me for a very long time - I left home here just before 5am to catch a flight to Sydney to attend a shop owners workshop conducted by Robyn Pandoph. What a great day I had - she was so inspiring - we all chatted about the current situation the Patchwork industry, as well as learning lots of great tips from Robyn on Needle turn applique. Thank goodness my evening flight home was on time - I arrive home about 9.30pm ready to face my 2 day retreat ladies at 9am Wednesday morning. Here is a photo of Myself with Robyn and the quilt we all started on the day - I wonder how long it will take me to get mine to this stage LOL.

June 2009 009

My retreat group from Sydney had a fabulous time as usual here in Nundle - they all made great quilts using lots of bright colour cobinations - and enjoyed the idealic rural setting that is "The cottage on the Hill" - so far away from the busy streets of Sydney.June 2009 001

Well I hope you have had another great week - enjoy life

Look what I won

Wow what a great day/night we had in Narrabri - the day was spent listening to 10 guest speakers which was very interesting then the evening was a formal Awards Dinner - it felt like we were at the Logi Awards - just no red carpet - all very exciting. After the announcement of one category it was then my turn - The Tourism Category - there were 3 finalist and I was announced the winner. How very nerve racking but very exciting - the worst part was I had to make an acceptance speech - after the announcement a3 minute video shown on the big screen - Lou and Gary - the photographers did a brilliant job on this, I look forward to receiving my copy to have a good look. Geoffrey my DH and friends Marg and Vicki joined me in Narrabri, it was so good to have them by my side and to share the excitement - after the dinner we celebrated into the wee hours - certainly a night to remember.

So what are you up to this weekend - I am a finalist in

Well tomorrow Geoffrey and I are travelling to Narrabri (about 2 1/2" hours drive) to attend the Awards Presentation Dinner for the Northern Inland Innovation Business Awards - I was lucky enough to be nominated in the Tourism and Leisure category - and now I am one of 3 finalise in this section. It is a real honour to be nominated and very exciting to be part the presentation dinner.

If you jump over to www.niia.com.au you can read alittle more about the awards - I have copied some of the critiera for my section, and the explanation of Innovation - The support and encouragement from customers over the past week or so has been amazing - I will be back sometime later in the weekend to let you all know how I went with the judging.

Innovation is the application of creative thinking to initiate or introduce improvements in a skill, product, methodology or process.

The innovation must be:

  • Unique to or developed in the Northern region
  • Better than the status quo
  • Sustainable in all applications
  • Have a viable outcome

Recognises the benefits this present and growing industry plays in the Northern region economy. Nominees may be from any tourism/hospitality/leisure business and consideration will be given to unique and innovative practices and the benefits the enterprise or activity brings to the region.

Fingers crossed

Table Runner Swap

Just popped in to share a couple of photos of the Table runner I made for Sue and the one Roseanne made for me as part of our "Friends in Stitching" online group. We all had a blast last Friday evening during our online chat room - 10 ladies all trying to talk at the same time can sometimes get very confusing - so our new comers found out very quickly.

I was very happy with the runner I made for Sue, I used a stitchery from Cinderberry Stitches and made up the rest - I used the Beach House range by Moda.Table runner for Sue

Roseanne made me this very gorgeous table topper designed by Annie Downs - she has done a great job of the stitcheries and Thimbleberry fabrics are one of my all time favourites. I love it - thanks Razzy so much.

Well after all the awful weather across the East Coast of Australia - it has finally decided to rain here in Nundle - thought we were going to miss out again, but we have had a couple of mm's today, hopefully there is more on the way.

I am trying very hard to fine time to sit down at the computer and compile another newsletter with whats been happening in store, but I ve been so busy cutting up lots and lots of Flannel kits that have been ordered, so those that are on my mailing list keep an eye out as there should be a newsletter out very soon and for anyone else who would like to join my online mailing list leave a comment with your email address and I will add you on.

Take care
